Toothbrush This month is national dental hygiene awareness month. Dental health is a key indicator of overall health. Poorly managed dental health can lead to oral infections, difficulty eating nutritious food, and chronic pain. The following are tips for seniors to promote good oral health!

Talk to your dentist about your toothbrush. Taking blood thinner medications can result in increased bleeding, including bleeding of the gums. For many seniors, using a soft-bristled toothbrush is essential to prevent bleeding. Talk to your dentist about what type of brush is right for you.

Use an electronic toothbrush. Arthritis and limited mobility can make dental care challenging. Using an electric toothbrush helps promote independence for seniors with mobility challenges.

Visit your dentist as recommended. Cavities and dental pain can lead to inadequate food intake. Maintain healthy teeth and prevent cavities by making regular check-ups and cleanings with your dentist.
