Living with psoriasis can be challenging year-round. August is psoriasis awareness month. For seniors, small steps every day can make a big difference in managing chronic conditions. The Mayo Clinic offers the following tips for supporting everyday skin health for seniors with psoriasis.

Plants and home remedies
Take cool baths every day.

Daily bathing helps sooth the skin. Add Epsom salts or oatmeal for a skin-nurturing bath. Avoid hot water and harsh soaps, which may cause irritation and inflammation.

Use a moisturizer daily.

Apply an ointment based moisturizer after bathing. Oil-based moisturizers provide the most effective skin hydration for psoriasis.

Take a walk in the sunlight.

Many doctors recommend that seniors with psoriasis spend a limited time in the sunlight. Too much sunlight can trigger symptoms. Be sure to talk to your doctor about how natural sunlight can help your symptoms.

Avoid stress and practice gratitude. Stress can be a trigger for psoriasis symptoms. Practice self-care everyday by expressing gratitude for the people and things in your life.
